About Us
Xcel Builders is a Māori owned and operated building company with a strong community focus alongside high quality project delivery.
Our Purpose
Our purpose is to assist community, iwi, hapū and whānau with marae and social papakāinga housing development building projects which make a generational difference. We do this by making spaces that are compliant, safe and fit for purpose.
We attribute our success to the strength of the relationships we have built in the Bay of Plenty region. Our strong relationship focus extends to our project partners from engineers and architects to subcontractors. This enables us to provide a one-stop shop service that is defined by cohesive delivery, open communication, no surprises and value for money.
Our Mission
At the core of our organisation, our mission is to foster meaningful connections with marae trustees and ahu whenua land trusts, cultivating productive relationships that enable us to build quality marae and housing development initiatives.
We are dedicated to delivering a tailored service encompassing specialised expertise in marae and housing construction, as well as comprehensive project management, ensuring seamless execution from initial concepts to successful completion.
Broader Outcomes
As the recipient of PGF and Oranga Marae funds to help with projects, we have been providing training and development opportunities to those living in nearby communities. As we grow our business, our goal is to provide further opportunities to provide permanent employment opportunities to builders and apprentices.
We have priorities identifying opportunities for:
- Displaced workers affected by Covid-19 job losses
- Local people where possible or using wider iwi networks
Xcel have had up to six apprentices from Toi Ohomai Polytech. The goal is for the apprentices to complete the Level 4 Carpentry Certificate to ensure the workers will be fully qualified for the future of their building careers.
We have also successfully developed PGF employees who were enrolled with Vertical Horizon NZ Ltd and obtained a Certificate in Construction Pre-Trade (High Work) Level 3. This upskilling enabled workers to enhance their capacity and technical capabilities for current and future employment opportunities.
Systems and Processes
Health and Safety
Our Health & Safety processes were developed to keep all those working or visiting worksites safe and protecting our environment. For every project, we have a comprehensive SSSP that all site visitors must be familiar with and adhere to.
We are IMPAC Prequal accredited, and also hold ISN prequalification, SiteSafe membership and SiteWise Green accreditation. Our commitment to the highest levels of Health and Safety standards is demonstrated by our exemplary track record of H&S statistics.
Quality
We also own most of our plant and equipment, including vehicles, trucks, diggers, storage facilities, security fencing and scaffolding. Quality control is built into our systems and processes. For every job, we submit before and after pictures and ensure the appropriate signoffs are gathered.
